Believe in yourself

A few years ago I was a new Mom and currently in the part of my life where I was staying at home full time with my daughter, Rachael, and I loved it! But my husband, Stephen, was working two jobs so I could stay home (he is amazing) so I knew needed to get a part-time job to take some of the pressure off of his shoulders. I hoped I’d start my career using my degree so I tried working at a few places that seemed promising, but they just didn’t work out. I kept wondering why was God putting me through all of this, it just didn’t make sense. So I found myself wondering “what IS my purpose?” often.

Then one day out of the blue Miss Laura texted me and asked if I would be interested in maybe teaching a fitness class at the studio a few times a week/possibly creating a class for children from 1-4 years old. So of course I said yes, I was extremely grateful for the opportunity! I have known Laura since we were little kiddos and have always been grateful for our friendship. She has always been someone that believes in me.

Now before I go any further I want to talk about something I have dealt with for a long time, severe anxiety. I have been dealing with this for about 14 years now and honestly, some days it can be crippling. It causes me to doubt everything I know, makes me extremely nervous about the smallest things, I tend to over think way too much, and makes me doubt myself in general. So naturally, even though I was super excited about this opportunity at Danceography I was also extremely anxious about it all. “Would I be bad at it?” Would people even want to sign up?” “What if people do sign up and don’t like it, or me?” “I’ve never worked with kids before, I don’t know what to do.” “I’m not good enough.” All of these thoughts went through my head constantly, but I knew I needed to be brave and believe that God had put me where I needed to be and to believe more in myself. So I created Sarah’s 6 Week Slimdown Fitness program as well as the Tiny Tykes program, along with some help from Miss Laura of course!

Today I have grown into many more roles at the studio and continue to believe more in myself, along with the help of my coworkers, the wonderful students and their families. I was even able to attend Dance Teachers Summit last July and still can’t believe I was able to go and gain so much knowledge from all of the amazing people that taught or spoke that weekend. I am lucky enough to now be teaching Babes in Ballet, Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap and Tumbling classes. Plus the Tiny Tykes classes are still going strong! I can’t tell you how thankful I am to be able to work with all of my students at Danceography, I have seriously never been happier at a job. I am so blessed and truly love being a dance/tumbling teacher. God knew what he was doing and I’m glad I had faith, was brave and had people along the way that have pushed me. I mean I am still able to stay at home during the day with my daughter to get those years you can’t get back, plus be able to provide income for my family and it’s at an incredible job, with incredible people. I am glad I continue to choose to believe in myself daily and love the person and teacher I’ve become through Danceography.
